The Delhi Police today asked the Delhi Metro to close four stations located near Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence following Anna Hazare's call to gherao his residence at 7 Racecourse Road at 5 pm today.

A Delhi Metro announcement today said as per the directions received from the Delhi Police, four Metro stations, including Udyog Bhawan, Race Course, Jor Bagh and Khan Market will remain closed for public from 3 pm till further orders.

All other Metro stations will function as per schedule, as per the announcement.

The step is intended to limit the number of protestors at PM's residence. Commuters are allowed to leave these stations but cannot enter these stations.

The Delhi Metro has rapidly emerged the lifeline of national capital and the government fears a large number of Anna supporters may use the Metro to reach the place.

While the step may not altogether cut off people from 7 Race Course Road, the government hopes to minimise the flow of protestors to PM's residence.
