Niira Radia, a political lobbyist who's tapped conversations with political bigwigs and telecom czars were led to the CBI probe into the massive 2G spectrum scam, announced her exit from the corporate communications business on Sunday.
Radia handled public relations of major groups through her flagship firm Vaishnavi Corporate Communications Pvt Ltd (VCCPL), NeUCom Consulting, Noesis Strategic Consulting Services and Vitcom Consulting Private Ltd, has about 200 employees on the payroll, whose fate remains uncertain.
''To give precedence to my personal priorities of family and health, I have decided against renewing any client mandates and to exit the business of communications consultancy,'' she said in a statement issued on Sunday.
''It is a painful decision, taken after much consideration and consultations,'' the statement added.
Radia's two major clients – the Tata group and Reliance Industries – immediately issued statements, respecting her decision to shut shop.
''The Tata Group respects the personal wishes of Niira Radia in not renewing any client mandates. She has built Vaishnavi (VCCPL) from scratch into the company it is today, often subordinating her personal and family interests in favour of her clients' priorities,'' Tata Sons Chairman Ratan N Tata said in a statement.
