The only witness to the horrific Delhi gang-rape case, the male friend of the 23-year-old victim, on Friday told Zee TV that no passersby came forward to help them as the two lay half naked on the road after they were abused, beaten up and thrown out of the bus by the gang of six.
Nor did the police help the girl reach hospital in time so that her life could have been saved. They wasted nearly half an hour arguing over the procedures, the witness said. The two reached hospital 2-1/2 hours after the incident took place, he added.
"I wish I could have saved her," the friend told Zee News Editor Sudhir Chaudhary in an exclusive interview.
He said his friend was ''positive'' and wanted to live even after the horrific incident that took place on the night of a6 December.
Explaining the ordeal of the 16 December night the victim's friend told Zee News that they were lured to a trap by the gang after passing autos refused to stop and they waited in vain for a long time.
''Many things have come out in the media, but people have been interpreting it as per their convenience. I want to tell them what we faced that night. I want to tell what I faced, what my friend faced,'' he told Zee News.
''The occupants of the bus, which had tinted windows and curtains, had laid a trap for us. They were probably involved in crimes before also. They beat us up, hit us with an iron rod, snatched our clothes and belongings and threw us off the bus on a deserted stretch.
