New Delhi: S Venkat will be Air India's new director (finance) with a position on the board. Currently, an executive director, Venkat has been selected for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB).
As part of the airline's restructuring exercise the management is undergoing a comprehensive overhaul, with the government recently appointing Rohit Nandan, joint secretary in the civil aviation ministry, as the new CMD. He replaced Arvind Jadhav.
Soon after announcing Nandan's appointment on 12 August, civil aviation minister, Vayalar Ravi, said three functional directors, in the departments of finance, personnel and commercial, would soon be appointed.
Venkat was earlier the airline's company secretary.
As for the post of director (personnel) the PESB has decided to interview more candidates, other than three eligible in-house candidates, sources said.
Interviews for the post of director (commercial) are scheduled in the coming days.
All these appointments would need to be confirmed by the government, sources said.
Along with management changes, the government is also in the process of inducting some independent directors to the Air India board.
