Sanjay Chandra resigns as Uninor chairman of board

Sanjay Chandra, taken into judicial custody for alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum scam, has resigned as chairman of the board at Uninor. NDTV Profit citing unnamed sources said Chandra had stepped down for an interim period till the matter was resolved in court.
Though it is believed that Uninor was likely to appoint an interim chairman no name had yet been finalised.
Earlier, Telenor, joint venture partner of Unitech Wireless, had in a letter sent to Unitech Ltd requested Chandra to step down as chairman of the board of directors in Unitech Wireless.
Unitech MD Sanjay Chandra stands accused in the 2G spectrum scam and is facing cheating and conspiracy by the CBI.
CNBC-TV 18 said Atul Malhotra is likely to be Chandra's interim replacement.The company's board is meeting tomorrow to discuss the 2G scam and rights issue.
Malhotra is learnt to be involved in Unitech's legal department. The business channel quoted unnamed sources having indicated that the company may have decided on replacement nominee prior to the board meet.
