Three days after he went missing in the Nevada desert, fears are growing for the safety of record-breaking US pilot Steve Fossett.
The 63-year-old daredevil aviator-adventurer who has cheated death a number of times, was last seen taking off from a private airfield near Yerington, Nevada, on the evening of Monday, 3 September.
Local pilots say that the plane Fosset was flying, a single-engine Citabria, may have been hit by the area''s strong and treacherous winds.
Both
the flying conditions and the terrain are difficult in the area where Fossett
went missing. It is an inhospitable landscape of dry desert and ravines.
