Sundaresan is new petroleum secretary

The appointment committee of the union cabinet has approved the appointment of Sthanunathan Sundareshan, a 1976 batch IAS officer from Kerala, as secretary, ministry of petroleum and natural gas (MoPNG) in place of R S Pandey, who is retiring on 31 January 2010.
Sundareshan, 57, is presently serving as special secretary at the ministry of petroleum and natural gas.
Sundaresan holds MBA from University of Leeds, UK & post graduate from Mumbai University.
He had served with distinction both the central and state governments.
His important assignments include chairman, Forward Markets Commission (FMC); joint secretary, department of economic affairs, ministry of finance; secretary to government of Kerala, department of expenditure, PWD & Irrigation; joint chief controller of imports and exports; managing director, Kerala State Milk Marketing Federation & Kerala Fisheries Corporation Ltd.
During his tenure in FMC from 2005 to 2007, he put in place regulation and structures for the commodities future market and established trading in close to 100 commodities including bullion, metals, crude, fiber and agricultural commodities.
Sundareshan will be at the helms of affairs of MoPNG till his retirement on October 31, 2012.
