Supreme Court issues notice to Anna Hazare over his trust
17 Oct 2011
Anna Hazare has been served a notice by the Supreme Court on a public interest litigation seeking a CBI probe into the allegation of mismanagement of funds by Anna's NGO Hind Swaraj Trust.
The Maharashtra government and the CBI have also been issued notices by the apex court on a plea by petitioner Supreme Court advocate ML Sharma.
According to the petition, Anna's NGO did not keep accounts of funds, from 1995 to 2003, granted to it by the Maharashtra government and the centre.
The NGO had already admitted as much before the P B Sawant Commission investigating complaints against it.
A notice has also been issued to CAPART, an organisation under the rural development ministry, which disburses grants to NGOs.
An apex court bench of justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Desai issued notice on a public interest litigation filed by the lawyer.
According to the petitioner, "It is a clear case of fraud, criminal breach of trust upon the state treasury played by respondent number four (Hazare), coupled with his associates / groups, politician friends for which despite having the Sawant Commission report of 2005, which disclosed the true admitted facts, state/central governments took no action till date."
