09 Feb 2009
Upputuru will look after the national creative function for all of Dentsu's agencies in India – Dentsu Marcom, Dentsu Communications and Dentsu Creative Impact.
Upputuru took a brief break after quitting O&M in early January.
Upputuru started his career with Madhyam DMB&B (now Publicis India) in the copy department. After a short stay at Trikaya Grey (now Grey Worldwide), he did a five year stint at TBWA India (then TBWA Anthem). Following a brush with Delhi based Ushak Kaal, he joined Ogilvy in 2003.
At Ogilvy, he is credited with campaigns for Afghan Telecom, the Hutch Delhi Marathon, Sprite (Seedhi Baat), Kinley (Boond Boond Mein Vishwas), Kentucky Fried Chicken (especially Institute of Lickonomics), Fanta, Grasim Suitings, WWF, Dabur, Seagram's and some brands of Perfetti Van Melle.
He has several awards, including at the New York Festivals, One Show, Luerzer's Archives and Abbys, to his credit.
For the record, Dentsu Inc. entered India in 2003 with Dentsu Communications, a subsidiary established in Bengaluru. In 2004, it launched its second agency, Dentsu Marcom, in New Delhi, followed by the Mumbai operations. Dentsu Creative Impact was launched in India as Dentsu's third agency in April 2007.
