Amitabha Datta, president, ABP group retires

Amitabha Datta, president, dailies, ABP Group, who has been overseeing both The Telegraph and Anandabazar Patrika, has retired after a stint of 33 years with the Group.
Datta has been responsible for implementing the growth strategies of both the ABP publications in East India. He has been actively involved with the launch of The Telegraph, its sub-brands and editions.
Datta joined ABP in 1976 as assistant manager, circulation. He was the first strategic business unit (SBU) Head of The Telegraph and continued in the role till recently, barring a two-year tenure as vice-president of Anandabazar Patrika.
During his tenure at ABP, he had looked after town, agency and upcountry circulation. Thereafter, he moved to the marketing department in 1986 as the first appointment advertising manager in the country. He went on to look after both classified and display categories, and eventually headed the space marketing function for both dailies.
Datta says it was a wonderful journey for the past three decades at the company. He adds that the Group touches the hearts and minds of Bengalis – young and old, men and women, educated and affluent, demanding and discerning, everywhere in the world.
