Viren Popli joins Mahindra & Mahindra

Viren Popli, has quit STAR India as senior vice-president and head, mobile entertainment division, to join the entertainment arm of Mahindra & Mahindra.
He will look after the auto manufacturer's foray into television.
Based in Mumbai, Popli will report to Andrey Purushottam, chief executive officer, Mumbai Mantra, which was started by Mahindra & Mahindra a year ago to make an entry into content production. Popli has been roped in as the head of the TV and digital initiatives of Mumbai Mantra.
His key responsibilities will be to make the film production unit a full-fledged division, apart from handling the digital and television forays of the company.
Popli has 15 years of experience and was associated with STAR India and Ranbaxy Laboratories. He started his career with Ranbaxy as market executive in 1994. After a stint of six years, he left Ranbaxy as country manager, Myanmar.
Popli holds a degree in mechanical engineering and is an MBA as well. In 2000, he joined STAR India, where he worked in various capacities including programming, distribution and handling international operations.
He was associated with the brand for nine years and during his tenure, he also supervised STAR's UK operations.
