Indian expatriate Rajeev Suri has been appointed chief executive officer of Nokia Siemens Networks, an arm of Nokia Corp, the global market leader in mobile handsets. His appointment is effective from 1 October 2009.
Suri succeeds Simon Beresford-Wylie, who will support Suri during the transition period up to 1 November before leaving the company, the Espoo, Finland-based company said.
"I am extremely pleased to announce Rajeev's appointment as chief executive officer of Nokia Siemens Networks," said Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, Nokia Corp chief executive and chairman of the board of directors of Nokia Siemens Networks, said in a statement.
"We began a comprehensive succession process when Simon shared his desire to depart at the appropriate time. That process has made it clear that Rajeev brings the right values, experience and industry expertise to take Nokia Siemens Networks forward," he added.
Suri has been with Nokia since 1995, holding various important positions. Born in 1967, he holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics and Telecommunications) degree from Mangalore University. Currently based in New Delhi, he is married and has two children.
However, his new job will involve a move to Espoo in Finland.
