15 Jun 2010
Harit Nagpal of Vodafone Group UK is to take over as managing director of direct-to-home (DTH) player Tata Sky, replacing Vikram Kaushik, MD and CEO, who retires in December.
Nagpal, an FMCG veteran having two decades plus experience in the industry, was group marketing director for the past nine years at Vodafone's headquarters in London.
Nagpal joined Vodafone when it was known as Hutchison Max Telecom. At that time it offered services under the Orange brand name in the Mumbai cellular circle.
Nagpal has worked on various sales and marketing assignments in diverse organisations like Lakme, Marico, Pepsi and Shoppers' Stop for 24 years. At Vodafone he served in operations and marketing functions on two occasions.
Kaushik, has experience spanning over three decades in consumer sales and marketing and has been credited with driving the growth of Tata Sky across markets, and in the process, building an enviable subscriber base. As MD and CEO of Tata Sky he pioneered a new category in services offerings - satellite television.
Nagpal will join the company in August to make for a smooth transition at Tata Sky. According to Kaushik, who is currently in Singapore, there would be a hand-holding period with Nagpal when he takes over. He added that he was not calling it a day to play golf, post-Tata Sky.
