P J Nayak to join as Morgan Stanley India CEO

Former Axis Bank CEO and IAS officer, P Jayendra Nayak is joining as CEO and country head for India, Morgan Stanley, which has been expanding its operations in the country.
From January 2000 until April 2009, Nayak was chairman and CEO of Axis Bank, which was formed by Unit Trust of India as UTI Bank.
Under his tenure Axis became India's third largest private sector bank, expanding from under 50 branches to over 800.
Nayak is currently an operating partner at Advent International Private Equity and non-executive chairman of Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company.
In 2009, Nayak became a member of the Technical Advisory Committee for Monetary Policy of the Reserve Bank of India.
Before joining Axis Bank, Nayak was executive trustee, Unit Trust of India, prior to which he worked as a IAS cadre civil servant. From 1990 to 1995, he was joint secretary, department of economic affairs, ministry of finance, and during this period he was a member of the board of directors of SEBI.
Nayak has been a consultant with the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. From 1999 to 2007 he was a member of the Committee for Development Policy of the United Nations.
Nayak holds an MA and a PhD in economics from Cambridge University, UK.
