Brijmohan Munjal, Dilip Shanghvi top Ernst & Young awards list

New Delhi: Sun Pharma chairman and managing director Dilip Shanghvi has been named Ernst & Young entrepreneur of the year 2010. He will represent the country at the Ernst & Young world entrepreneur of the year award in Monte Carlo, Monaco in June 2011.
This is the 12th year of E&Y awards.
Eight other successful entrepreneurs received these coveted awards across various categories at a magnificent celebratory banquet attended by over 350 people here today.
Shanghvi founded Sun Pharmaceuticals Limited in 1983 and has won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year award in the Healthcare and Life Sciences category in 2005.
Brijmohan Lall Munjal, chairman, Hero Honda Motors was named for the lifetime achievement.
The other award winners are:

- Manager: R Sridhar, MD, Shriram Transport Finance Company Ltd;
- Manufacturing: Mallika Srinivasan, chairman, Tractors and Farm Equipment Ltd;
''The winners reflect three generations of entrepreneurs coming together; the older business groups who have completely reinvented themselves; the next generation who have built scale at a rapid pace and the first generation of newcomers," says Rajiv Memani, CEO and country managing partner, Ernst & Young India. "As is evident, there is one common thread that binds them together – the passion to make a difference, commitment to excel and build world-class organizations.''
New award categories instituted; What makes the 12th edition of the awards even more memorable is the introduction of two new award categories, the entrepreneur of the year in energy and infrastructure and life sciences and consumer products.
''Through the Infrastructure and Energy category, we recognise the significant contribution made by an individual who has embarked upon nation-building by successfully creating capital-intensive assets," says Farokh Balsara, national leader for the entrepreneur of the year programme.
"Domestic consumption spending is driving India's economic resurgence, while local pharmaceutical firms are emerging as global leaders - our second new category, Life Sciences and Consumer Products, honours an entrepreneur from these vital sectors,'' Balsara adds
The jury for the awards comprised M Damodaran, former Sebi chairman, P R S Oberoi, chairman and CEO of hospitality chain EIH Ltd; Naina Lal Kidwai, CEO, HSBC India; Dalip Pathak, vice chairman Warburg Pincus International; Sunil Kant Munjal, Hero Corporate Service Limited; A.
