Tim Cook to take over as Apple new chief today
04 Oct 2011
Apple's Tim Cook is expected take charge as chief executive today with the unveiling a hot new iPhone model that some analysts predict would turn out to be a bestseller.
Cook would take over as Apple's chief from Apple co-founder and pitchman Steve Jobs, who relinquished charge in August owing to ill health.
Jobs,56, who had surgery for pancreatic cancer in 2004 and a liver transplant in 2009, continues with Apple as chairman of the board of directors.
The event would be held at an auditorium at the company's Cupertino headquarters and only select press persons have been invited for Cook's on-stage debut as chief executive.
According to analysts the launch of Apple's iPhone 5 would be Tim Cook's first time out as the undisputed leader of Apple and it would therefore be a test for him.
The iPhone 5 was what analysts and others had taken to calling the brand new smartphone line from Apple.
