Bollywood actor Vindoo Randhawa, son of the late wrestler-actor Dara Singh, was arrested by the crime branch of Mumbai Police on Tuesday for alleged links with cricket betting and bookies.
Vindhu, 49, who won the third season of the TV reality show Big Boss, was produced before a magistrate's court and has been remanded in police custody till 24 May.
Vindoo's association with bookies and tainted cricketers surfaced through examination of the phone conversations that arrested bookie Ramesh Vyas had with other top cricket bookies like 'Jupiter' and Sanjay Jaipur, said crime branch officials.
"Vindoo was questioned after he was found to be in contact with the bookies and subsequently arrested. There is enough evidence against Vindoo to prove his association with the bookies and cricketers,'' said a crime branch official, requesting anonymity.
Vindoo was seen several times watching Indian Premier League matches and attending post-match parties.
His arrest is the first from Bollywood in connection with the latest scandal to hit Indian cricket.
It is not yet clear if he was involved in spot-fixing or was just into betting.
The crime branch, which is probing the IPL scandal in which three Rajasthan Royals cricketers have been arrested, along with the Special Cell of the Delhi Police, had on Monday questioned a casting director who sent photographs of models to S Sreesanth and summoned a Telugu film producer having business links with the tainted India pacer.
