Veteran administrator G K Pillai new head of Tata International

Tata International Ltd, the global trading and distribution arm of the Tata Group, on Friday appointed former union home secretary G K Pillai as its chairman with immediate effect.
He succeeds B Muthuraman who retires after 48 years of association with the Tata Group.
Pillai, a retired Indian Administrative Service officer of the 1972 batch and an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, has previously held the positions of home secretary, commerce secretary and justice secretary. He has also been India's chief negotiator at the World Trade Organisation.
Pillai is also the chairman of IvyCap Ventures, and is on the board of several other companies, including Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd and the Data Security Council of India.
Established in 1962, TIL's key business verticals are leather and leather products, metals and minerals trading, distribution of auto and allied equipment, and agricultural trading, with a presence in manufacturing and supply chain integration in selected businesses.
It has a presence in 40 countries spanning Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia, and has spearheaded ventures in new geographies for the group. It had a turnover of $1.7 billion in 2013-14 and employs about 10,000 people.
