After Jobs' demise Google, Samsung delay launch of ICS

10 Oct 2011

With the passing away of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, Google and Samsung Electronics Co have delayed a new product introduction originally scheduled for Tuesday, 11 October at a trade show.

The companies announced yesterday that the expected release of a new version of the Android operating system code named Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) would not happen as scheduled.

''Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall," the companies said in a statement. "We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced."

The new release of Android was highly awaited on expectations it would tie the smartphone version of the operating system, known as Gingerbread, and the tablet OS Honeycomb.

According to Kim Titus, a Samsung spokesman based in Suwon, South Korea the decision was not related to technical problems.

Titus told Bloomberg in a telephonic interview that the company decided it was not the right time for the announcement of a new product with the world expressing tribute to Steve Jobs's passing.
