Bajaj Auto, India's second largest two wheeler maker plans to ramp up its production to meet the growing demand of the market. According to S Sridhar CEO Bajaj Auto, the present capacity of the plant at 2.75 lakh units per month would be increased to 3 lakh units over a preriod three to four months.

Bajaj Auto currently has a 17-per cent share of the two wheeler market and with the launch of Discover150 it is expected to go up by another 5 to 6 per cent.

The company had earlier on Monday announced the launch of 150 cc motorcycle Discover priced at Rs46,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) claimed to give a mileage of 65 km to a litre (See: Bajaj Auto launches new Discover 150 for Rs46,000)

''Along with the popular 100cc Discover range launched last year, we are confident of crossing sales volumes of over one million bikes under the Discover brand alone. The sales numbers of 100cc Discover bikes and the projected sales volumes of about 35,000 to 40,000 bikes a month of 150cc bike range will help us easily coast over the one million mark,'' Sridhar said.

Sridhar said the company was building its business on two-brand strategy, with one catering to the commuter segment market and the other under the Pulsar range with sporty features that are priced higher.

He added that in less than nine months since Discover 100 was launched, Bajaj had sold over 6,50,000 bikes.
