Pune: BMC Software, which began its Indian operations in 2001, has opened global data centre in Pune.

Mr Jay Gardner, Chief Information Officer, BMC Software, told newspersons that the data centre, housed in a 5,500-sq. ft facility would be able to host more than 1,200 servers. "The total investment in the facility would be close to $1 million,"he said.

He said BMC was planning to shift its Performance Scalability and Reliability Lab to the data centre. Currently, about 70 servers are involved in this lab facility across the US and these servers would be brought to the Pune centre, he said. Presently, once a software programme is developed, it is taken to any of these servers in the US for testing its performance, reliability and scalability.

"With this data centre in place in Pune, all checks will be carried out under one roof," he said. The data centre is expected to become operational by the first quarter of fiscal 2004-05.
