New Delhi: BSNL Employees' Union today announced in a statement that it would oppose the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's latest regulation to unblock or unbundle 'last mile' network connectivity.

The union said in a statement that TRAI's move to unbundle the network would lead to a reversal of the government's policy of not unbundling the local loop.

The union charged multinationals and private companies of pressurising the government to un-bundle the last mile connections with the aim of cornering huge profit by utilising the BSNL and MTNL infrastructure.

It said TRAI's latest regulation on opening up domestic leased circuit (DLC) would also lead to hoarding of BSNL's and MTNL's last mile copper cables by private operators, leading to the two PSUs becoming uncompetitive.

It had also opposed TRAI's earlier recommendation of unbundling the last mile copper cables after which the department of telecommunication and the government did not accept TRAI's recommendations.
