First phase of GAIL’s Kochi-Bangalore pipeline to be commissioned in 2012-13

The first phase of the Kochi-Mangalore/Bangalore pipeline project of the Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL), which involves the laying of 40 m of pipeline in the Kochi region, will be completed in 2012-13, when the second phase would also be taken up.

GAIL's Kochi-Mangalore/Bangalore pipeline project consists of two phases – the first phase involving construction o pipelines in the Kochi area and the second phase of linking it with Mangalore and Bangalore, which would be taken up in 2012-13.

Out of the 40-km first phase, 33.5 km of pipeline has been welded and lowered so far, minister of state for petroleum and natural gas RPN Singh informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply today.

The first phase is going to be commissioned in FY 2012-13. Laying of pipeline from Kochi to Mangalore / Bangalore has been planned in the second phase. So far, laying contracts have been awarded in January 2012 and mobilisation of equipment and manpower is in progress.

''The anticipated completion of second phase is in FY 2013-14,'' he added.

The minister also said the competent authority has heard grievances received after publication of the notification declaring intention to acquire right of user and disposed of in accordance with the provisions of the Act.
