NTPC Awards Rs318-crore hydro project to Patel Engineering

National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC) has awarded the Loharinag Pala Hydro Electric Power Project [4x150 MW) head race tunnel package worth Rs318 crore to Patel Engineering Ltd. The project, to be completed in 38 months, is situated on river Bhagirathi in Uttarkashi district of Uttaranchal about 195km from Rishikesh on NH108.

Loharinag Pala Hydro Electric Power Project is a run-of-the river scheme to generate 1939 MU on 90 per cent dependability. The project comprises a 6m diameter horse-shoe shaped 13km. long concrete lined head race tunnel on the right bank of the Bhagirathi, which will be executed through three access adits (nearly horizontal passage from the surface into a mine) using the drill-and-blast technique

"Executing a hydropower project requires vast experience and expertise, and hence yields better margins," says Sonal Patel whole time director, Patel Engineering, and adds, "we are currently executing a large number of hydro power projects and will continue to focus on acquiring similar projects."
