ONGC reports 15 discoveries including 4 new finds in current fiscal

04 Jan 2012

State-run oil and gas explorer Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd has notified four more discoveries, taking the total discoveries during the fiscal year (April 2011-March 2012) to 15.

ONGC said it has found four new potential hydrocarbon reserves in Gujarat and Assam. The board of ONGC, which met today, announced the discoveries.

These include a well in North Patharia (Patharia-5), located at a distance of about 7 km from Karimganj town in Karimganj district of Assam. The well was drilled to a depth of 1,402 metres. On testing, gas with some quantities of water flowed at 9,400 m3/day from the well from depths of 1,128 to 1,136 metres, ONGC said in a release.

Gas flowed at 4,820 m3/day at another interval of 1,114 to 1,121 metres with some quantities of water through a 4 mm bean, ONGC said.

''The success of this well has reinforced the hydrocarbon prospectivity of the northern plunge of Patharia anticline in Cachar fold belt areas,'' ONGC said in its release.

An exploratory well 'LNBU (East Linch)' in the Linch PML,  near Mandhali village of Mehsana district in Gujarat, encountered multiple zones of oil at 29 m3/day through 5 mm bean at intervals of 1,854 to 1,857 metres. The well was drilled to a depth of 2,201 metres, ONGC said.

This is the first time oil and gas has been discovered in Mehsana in the East Linch area thereby opening a new play for further exploration, ONGC said.

A development well in Mandhali, near Kadi town of Mehsana, also showed presence of oil and gas. The well on testing produced oil at 108 m3/day and gas at about 12,500 m3/day at intervals of 1,866 to 1,869m. The well was drilled to a depth of 2,020m.
