Mumbai: Pureview Technologies (PT), a joint venture between Pureview of India and Funet of Taiwan will be entering the LCD market with a launch into the Western region today. This will be followed by launches in New Delhi and in the South in April.
.
According to estimates, LCD monitors will replace cathode ray tube (CRT) models in India over the next four years. And it is this growth potential that Pureview seeks to capture.

The total PC market in India is put at 27 lakh, with an annual growth of 14.5 per cent.

The LCD market, which stood at one lakh units in 2003, is likely to grow to six lakh units in 2004, representing a 20 per cent changeover to LCDs. The company expects a 37 per cent shift to LCDs by 2005.

Mr Sudipto Mukherjee, country manager PT said that a complete replacement of CRTs by LCD monitors was not likely before 2007, though pricing pressures could speed up the changeover.

Mr Dhananjay Shah, Managing Director, PT said that the company is planning to set up a unit in Baroda. However, concrete plans would have to wait another 4-6 months as the company assesses initial response to the product and the demand and capacity for the same.
