Suzlon bags 200 MW wind turbine order from Horizon Wind Energy

Mumbai: Indian wind turbine maker Suzlon Energy Ltd, today received an order by power company Horizon Wind Energy, a US subsidiary of EDP, for a 200-megawatt contract EDP did not disclose the financial details of the deal.

Suzlon has previously agreed to deliver to Horizon Wind an order of 200 MW of capacity in 2008 and 200 MW in 2009, EDP said in a statement.

The original contract calls for delivery of 400 MW of turbine capacity in 2008 and 2009, and now has been expanded to include an additional 200 MW in 2009.

The capacity will be supplied in Suzlon's S88-2.1 MW wind turbine and will be delivered to various ready-to-build sites across the United States.

The turbine agreement includes the supply of 95 units of the S88-2.1 MW in 2008 and 190 units in 2009.

US-based Horizon Wind Energy is currently developing a portfolio of more than 10,500 MW in the US. It is owned by Energias de Portugal (EDP), the largest utility in Portugal, since 2007, when it acquired Horizon from Goldman Sachs, which had bought over the firm in 2005.

Capitalising on Goldman Sachs' financing, Horizon rapidly expanded in to a power project owner  throughout the United States from being a a pure-play developer.
