REpower Systems AG, the Europen arm of Pune-based wind power major Suzlon Energy Limited, has signed two contracts with UK-based wind energy company Energiekontor UK Construction Limited.

REpower UK, will execute the order for supply of 21 MM82-2.05 MW turbines comprising nine MM82 turbines to Energiekontor UK's wind farm at Withernwick in Yorkshire and twelve to Hyndburn wind farm on Oswaldtwistle Moor in Lancashire.

The turbines have a rated capacity of 2.05 megawatts (MW) each, adding up to a total 43.05 MW.

The 12 turbines at the Hyndburn wind farm will generate around 70 million KWh of electricity per year - equivalent to the estimated electricity requirements of 52 per cent of the households within the Hyndburn area. With a total capacity of 43.05 megawatts, the two farms together will generate enough to power for 24,000 homes.

Construction is due to start in the second half of 2011 for Hyndburn and the first half of 2012 for Withernwick. The projects are scheduled for completion in 2012.

"We are delighted to be working with Energiekontor UK. We hope that Withernwick and Hyndburn wind farms will mark the beginning of a long and prosperous relationship between the two companies," said Rick Eggleston, managing director of REpower UK.
