Tata Motor vehicle sales up 26 per cent in August ''06

Mumbai: Tata Motors reported total vehicle sales of 45,681 (including exports) for August, up 26.2 per cent from 36,205 vehicles sold in August last year. Cumulative sales for the current financial year beginning April '06 rose 40 per cent to 2,16,891 units.

Domestic sale of commercial vehicles in August '06 rose 35 per cent to 23,069 units from 17,071 vehicles sold in August last year. Medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) sales stood at 13,455, up 38.6 per cent from August '05 while LCV sales rose 30.6 per cent to 9,614 units.

Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market at 1,07,745 units during the fiscal were up 57.8 per over the corresponding period last year. Cumulative M&HCV sales were up 52.8 per cent at 62,201 units while LCV sales for the period were up 65.4 per cent at 45,544 units.

The passenger vehicle business reported a total sale of 17,541 vehicles in the domestic market in August '06, an increase of 26.4 per cent over August '05. The Indica sold 11,920 units, up 48 per cent from August '05. The Indigo family registered a 31.5 per cent dip in sales at 2,170 units from August '05. Sale of Sumo and Safari rose 29.7 per cent at 3,451 units while the Safari recorded its highest ever sale of 1,305 units, the highest for any month, in August.

Cumulative sales of passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal were 85,685 units, an increase of 25.9 per cent over the previous year. Cumulative sales of Indica at 57,034 units posted a growth of 41.1 per cent while cumulative sales of the Indigo family at 13,075 units registered a decline of 13.5 per cent over last year. Cumulative sales of Sumo and Safari were up 24.3 per cent 15,576.

Export sales were down 3.5 per cent at 5,071 units in August '06 as compared to 5,256 in August '05. Cumulative exports in the current period at 23,461 units recorded a 26.5 per cent growth over the corresponding figures for the previous period.
