Number of jobs up 7.8 as number of factories rise over 33 per cent in 2010-11: Survey

The number of persons employed in various industries across the country increased by 7.8 per cent in 2011 even as the total number of estimated factories rose 33.22 per cent from last year to 2,11,660 units at the end of 2011.

Wages, however, rose 18.1 per cent in real terms in 2010-11, a government survey pointed out.

Total persons engaged in different industries stood at 12.7 million in 2010-11 compared to 11.7 million in 2009-10, according to the Annual Industries Survey released by the ministry of statistics and programme implementation today.

In current prices, salaries jumped 24.8 per cent in 2010-12, while in real terms, wages rose 18.1 per cent, the survey said.

Total number of factories rose to 2,11,660 in 2010-11 from 1,58,877 in 2009-10.

At all India level, the fixed capital in current prices grew by 19 per cent in 2010-11 against 28 per cent last year. At constant prices, the growth in fixed capital was 12.5 per cent in 2010-11 against 25 per cent in the previous year.
