Dell cuts nearly 6,000 jobs globally

Dell Inc, a global provider of desk-top computers, laptops and related products and services, on Monday announced that it has reduce4d its workforce by 6,000 globally, as part of a cost-cutting effort.
Dell’s decision to reduce workforce follows a steady decline in demand for its personal computers over the last two years.
In a regulatory filing Dell said it will keep its employee strength at the reduced level of 120,000 globally and undertake a reshuffling of the existing workforce, limiting fresh hiring to the minimum.
Dell, which had a total of 126,000 employees world-wide, saw the numbers falling to 129,000 by February this year.
According to reports, Dell, which had earlier been pushing for a return-to-office from the post-pandemic work-from-home mandate, had told remote workers that they can continue working from home but they will not be entitled for promotions.
Dell said its input costs could increase and revenue from other segments decline. The company had recently offloaded its visualization software unit VM ware to Broadcom Inc and this will reflect in its revenue flow.
Dell is pinning hope on artificial intelligence-enabled PCs and computer servers, orders for which rose 40 per cent sequentially during the quarter.
