Apple launches new Magic Trackpad

Apple has announced launch of the Magic Trackpad, the company's new standalone Bluetooth trackpad.

The Magic Trackpad uses the same glass surface as the trackpad on Apple's current laptop line and brings Apple's Multi-Touch technology to any Mac running Mac OS X 10.6.4 or later. The device, however, does not work with the iPad.

It is designed to complement Apple's Wireless Keyboard, and uses the same aluminum-body design and is almost the exact same height, depth, and inclination--as the Wireless Keyboard.

Like the Wireless Keyboard, it has its back edge raised about half an inch to accommodate a cylindrical battery compartment that fits two AA batteries. It also has the same power button, on the left-hand side with the screw-shut battery-compartment cover on the right-hand side. It has rubber feet at the bottom to keep it from sliding while being used.

It also fits snugly with non-wireless Apple Keyboards, as its thickness and inclinations are almost identical, so when aligned with the front edge of the trackpad with either of Apple's wired keyboards, the top surfaces are almost perfectly aligned.

The actual trackpad has a surface which is roughly 5.2 inches wide by 4.3 inches deep with the entire device, including the battery compartment, being 5.2 inches deep.
