The 40.6 per cent sales growth in September 2003 compared to September 2002 (3,283 numbers) has been largely helped by a 50.2 per cent jump in the domestic medium duty vehicles (MDV) goods segment: 3,243 numbers as against 2,159 numbers the previous September. Exports grew 21.3 per cent to 244 numbers (201 numbers).
Of the cumulative volume of 20,360 vehicles for the first half, MDV goods, at 13,943 vehicles, are up 40.9 per cent; MDV passenger vehicles, at 5,080 vehicles, are up 5.5 per cent. Exports have grown 15 per cent, to 1,155 numbers (1,004 numbers). "Market demand remains buoyant and we are stepping up production," says Ashok Leyland managing director R Seshasayee.
