Diesel ban-hit Mercedes-Benz to launch S400 petrol in India

Hit by the government's anti-pollution drive and its stance against fuel-guzzling diesel vehicles, Geman auto major Mercedes-Benz is bringing its petrol-powered S400 in India to drive sales.
The Mercedes-Benz S400, with a 3-litre, V6 petrol engine that produces 329PS and 480Nm pared with a 7-speed or 9-speed automatic gearbox, will be launched on 29 March.
While internationally, the S400 is sold as a Hybrid, Mercedes Benz India has no plans of launching this trim.
The S400 will offer all goodies that are present in the S-Class diesel models, including air-suspension and rear wheel drive. Besides it would offer better cabin quality, space and comfort.
The international models of S400 get the Magic Body Control that adjusts the dampers as per the road conditions. The system uses a radar to scan the road surface.
This, however, will not be available in the models to be offered in India.
Mercedes-Benz's other petrol powered S-Class is the S500, which has a V8 petrol engine.
The S400 will be positioned between the S350d and the S500. The price is expected to be between Rs1.2 crore to 1.4 crore (ex-Delhi).
