The FIFA World cup extravaganza in South Africa is a huge success for ESPN STAR sports, the Indian broadcaster for the event, which has amassed Rs150 crore through advertising rights.
Among the list of advertisers it has roped in are Vodafone and Airtel DTH as the joint presenting sponsors while Nokia, Samsung and Hero Honda are the associate sponsors.
The 10-second ad-spots were taken by Parle Agro, Pernod Ricard, Micromax, BPCL, Coca Cola and Jhaveri Industries.
The charges for the ad spots were range from Rs1.75 to Rs2.5 lakh for 10 second spots, Rs13 crore for the associate sponsorship and Rs16 crore for the main sponsorship.
The jump in revenue is because of the expected rise in the number of viewers for the soccer world cup, which saw a two fold increase in 2006 as compared to 2002 as per Rathindra Basu, director, business development, ESPN Software India.
The sports channel had launched a series of promotional TVCs during the ICC World T20 as a buildup to the FIFA event.
The promotions had a two-pronged approach, pre-event programming and programming during the tournament through special shows and events.
