Fresh talks on Friday over labour unrest at Hero MotoCorp

As labour unrest continues at major two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp's Gurgaon plant, latest reports suggests that the workers and management will meet again on Friday to continue talks that made little headway when they started last Monday.
The fresh round of talks will be held in the presence of Haryana deputy labour commissioner to break a five-month long deadlock over wage issues.
Workers at the company's main plant in Gurgaon, which has a daily average production of 7,000 units, have decided to slow down work and threatened to go on strike if the if India's biggest two-wheeler company by sales does not agree to their wage demands.
The workers are demanding a monthly wage hike of up to Rs18,000 over a three-year period, which the management finds excessive. It has said earlier that it will not give in to ''coercive tactics'', an attitude that is not promising for a quick solution of the dispute.
The initial wage negotiations, which started in late August last year, remained inconclusive and fell apart on Monday. The matter was then referred to the deputy labour commissioner of the region.
A Hero MotoCorp spokesperson said on Tuesday, "We will continue to engage with the workers towards achieving the objective of reaching at an amicable solution, without allowing ourselves to be coerced into decisions governed by pressure tactics."
