Infosys Technologies Ltd has announced that it plans to resume campus recruitment across the country from January next year - a clear indication that information technology companies see better days ahead.

The company, which skipped campus recruitment this year, is also looking at training about 18,000 of its existing employees under the 'extended mode' till January 2010, chief executive and managing director S Gopalakrishnan told reporters on the sidelines of a CII meeting in New Delhi today.

Gopalakrishnan said previously freshers were put on training in one technology, but now they were being trained in two technologies. "They are now better equipped and are more flexible, as they are trained in multiple skills," he said.

The recruitment and expansion would begin early next year, he said, expressing hope that the economy would revive in a few months. The global economic meltdown affected the growth rate of India's leading IT companies, including Infosys, he said.

Gopalakrishnan expected better performance from IT companies, including Infosys, in the first quarter. He added that the IT and ITES industry would continue to grow despite the economic slowdown, and its growth rate is expected to pick up by mid-2010.

He said most companies impacted by the slowdown would recover in mid-2010. "This would also increase the employment opportunities, and, as a result, most of the companies would start recruiting around January 2010."
