Johnson & Johnson Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, yesterday said that it has acquired the ORSLTM ready-to-drink electrolyte brand from Bangalore-based Jagdale Industries.
"Johnson & Johnson Pte. Ltd today completed the acquisition of the ORSLTM ready-to-drink electrolyte brand from Bangalore-based Jagdale Industries," the company said in a statement.
The company, which also markets cough syrup brand Benedryl, did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction, but analysts opine that ORSL, which has annual sales of around Rs100 crore, would fetch around Rs750 crore ($122 million).
Under the terms deal, Jagdale Industries will provide transition services in the area of manufacturing, detailing and distribution of ORSLTM.
ORSLTM is a fruit-based electrolyte drink popular in India, which is helpful for providing a quick energy boost and electrolytes restoration during mild dehydration and general debility, often following cough and cold, pain, fever and other digestive conditions.
''India is a very important market for Johnson & Johnson and we are pleased to add the ORSL brand to our portfolio of consumer health care brands in India,'' said, Thibaut Mongon, company group chairman, Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies Asia Pacific.
''This acquisition will allow us to expand our consumer health care offerings in line with our vision of helping consumers lead healthy vibrant lives,'' he added.
