Jet Airways orders 20 Boeing 737s

Jet Airways has ordered 20 737-800 jets, Boeing''s best-selling airplane, the company
said on Tuesday 16 October. The deal is worth $1.5 billion (Rs5,900 crore) at
list prices, though customers usually negotiate steep discounts.The 737-800 is the most popular variant of Boeing''s ''next-generation'' 737 model series, which begin with the 737-600. The Boeing 737 seats between 110 and 180 passengers in two classes. Boeing said that as of 30 September 2007, it had unfilled orders for nearly 1,800 737s worth more than $125 billion at list prices.
The Mumbai-based Jet Airways, which started operations in 1993, already has 50 Boeing 737s in its fleet. It offers about 340 flights a day to 53 destinations in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal, the United States, Canada, Belgium and the United Kingdom.
In
August, Jet Airways had exercised its option to buy three Boeing extended-range
777s for $790 million (Rs3,100 crore) at list prices, in addition to an order
it placed two years ago for 10 777-300ERs. In January, it agreed to buy 10 Boeing
787 Dreamliners.
