L&T to beef up production of super-critical boilers, steam generators for producing 4000 MW annually
19 Mar 2008
Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) plans to ramp up its manufacturing capacity of super-critical boilers and super-critical turbine generators to generate 4000 MW per annum.
L&T is the only private sector company in India to make super-critical boilers and steam turbine generators. Super-critical boilers and turbines are integral components of energy efficient, coal-based power plants coming up to augment the power generation capacity during the 11th Plan period.
L&T will manufacture and market these critical components for large power plants through two separate joint ventures with Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, in which the Indian engineering firm holds a majority 51-per cent stake (See: L&T & Mitsubishi tie-up to make super-critical steam turbines, generators in India)
L&T-MHI will have a product configuration catering to super-critical power plants, ranging between 500 MW to 1000 MW.
These JVs, which will have an investment of Rs1,500 crore commenced operations at Hazira last year and will strengthens L&T's power sector capabilities for executing EPC contracts for power projects as well as manufacturing complete condensing and feed heating systems and 'balance or plant' for power projects.NN.
Moreover, in December L&T had announced ambitious plans to enter the power generation sector with an investment of Rs5,000 crore (See: L&T plans mega entry into power generation).
