Motorola Inc has split itself into two separate business entities - Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions - with the former covering the business of handsets and set-top boxes and Motorola Solutions taking care of the remaining businesses.
The US-based technology firm also announced the sale of its police radios and barcode scanners division to government and business customers.
Motorola Mobility delivers personalised information to meet the needs of consumers both in the home and on the go while Motorola Solutions provides business and mission-critical communication products and services to enterprises and governments, the company said in web site release.
The board of directors of the company had approved the separation of Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc from Motorola Inc in November last year.
"The" announcement marks another important milestone toward the upcoming separation that is expected to benefit Motorola, its stockholders, as well as each company's respective customers and employees," Greg Brown, Motorola co-CEO and CEO of Motorola Solutions and Sanjay Jha, Motorola co-CEO and CEO of Motorola Mobility said.
"We look forward to taking advantage of the opportunities before us as we begin the New Year as two independent, publicly traded companies," they added.
