Aircel has launched a data plan that enables users to use the internet on their mobile phones for less than Re1 a day.
The Pocket Internet 24 (PI-24) plan is being priced at Rs24 with a 30-days validity, and is launched targeting first time users in India.
It will help in familiarising users with popular search engines and social networking websites, apart from helping in downloading applications, surfing the Net and stay connected with family and friends.
''India has the third largest internet users in the world and is rapidly adding 70 million mobile internet users a year. It is ironic that despite of this exponential growth a majority of the Indian population has never
experienced internet on their mobile phones,'' said Vikas Kakwani, Circle Business Head, Mumbai, Aircel.
''These customers have used internet in cyber cafes and desktops but have never experienced internet on their phones due to limited awareness and knowledge of mobile internet. With Pocket Internet 24, we aim to
tap this segment and drive internet adoption among first time internet users,'' Kakwani added.
Pocket Internet 24 is a part of Aircel's data portfolio, which will be available in Mumbai for Rs24 for 100MB data.
Once 100MB data is consumed, with in validity customer will be charged for data download at 1 paise per 10 KB.
