Tata Docomo bets on cricket to add revenues, subscribers

Aiming to capture the attention of cricket-crazy fans in the country in the wake of the on-going World Cup, Tata Teleservices' GSM brand Tata Docomo yesterday launched a SMS contest for cricket fans.
Subscribers participating in the contest will be awarded a run for every correct answer and the customer with the highest score each day will get Rs25,000 from the telecom provider.
The contest is open to both pre-paid and post-paid customers till 2 April 2011.
Subscribers can play in the following eleven languages - English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Kannada, Punjabi, Oriya, Bengali, Malayalam and Marathi.
Tata Docomo will charge Rs5 daily for subscription to the contest, after which all further SMSes will be charged at Rs1. Customers who don't subscribe to the contest will be charged Rs3 per SMS.
Tata Docomo is a joint venture between Tata Teleservices and Japanese telecom major NTT Docomo, formed in November 2008.
