Tata Power-SN Power consortium bags Dugar hydro project

The Tata Power-SN Power consortium has bagged the contract for the Dugar Hydro project in Himachal Pradesh. The 236 MW project would be set up in the Chenab Valley in Himachal Pradesh (HP).
HP with abundant hydro resources has a power potential of about 23,000 MW, of which around 6,672 MW have been harnessed till now by the central and state governments, private players and joint venture companies.
In addition to this win in HP, the consortium of Tata Power-SN Power is also working on development of the 880 MW Tamakoshi 3 project in Nepal, for which they hold an exploratory license.
Tata Power has generation capabilities in hydro, thermal, solar and wind energy with 3,000 MW plus already operational and additional 5,500 MW under construction.
The Tata group company presently has 447 MW operational hydro-power capacity in Maharashtra, feeding Mumbai with clean power and additionally it has114 MW from Dagachhu Hydro Project under construction in Bhutan in a JV with Druk Green Power Company, Royal Government of Bhutan.
Both companies had entered into an exclusive arrangement in 2009 to develop hydro power projects in the Himalayan region of India and Nepal.
The Dugar Hydroelectric project would be developed through a special purpose vehicle, according to a statement by the Tata Power Company. The financial details were, however not disclosed by the company.
