Tribunal stays competition panel’s orders against Adani Gas
30 Aug 2014
The Competition Appellate Tribunal today stayed an order of the Competition Commission of India imposing a Rs25-crore penalty on Adani Gas and ordering a modification of the gas sale contract.
Adani Gas is the city gas distribution arm of Adani Enterprises, which is part of the Ahmedabad-based Adani Group.
"No coercive steps shall be taken for the recovery of penalty till further orders. There shall also be a stay on the direction of CCI on the modification of the agreement," said the CAT, while scheduling the next hearing for 10 September.
The earlier order, apart from the penalty, also directed the company to modify the gas sale agreements (GSA) related to supply and distribution of natural gas by Adani Gas in Faridabad.
The case was taken up by CCI following information filed by Faridabad Industries Association and the final order was passed in July this year, after which the CCI directed Adani Gas to cease and desist from unfair practices.
