Vodafone to cut hundreds of jobs in Australia by end November

Vodafone is set to cut hundreds of jobs in Australia by the end of November, with the telco facing falling revenues and rising costs.
According to the company "a significant reduction in the number of office roles across the country to enable a leaner, more effective operating model" was on the way but it gave no idea about the number of jobs that would go.
BusinessDay reported that about 500 positions would go by the end of the November in a company that employed 5,000 full-time and contract workers.
''It is vital that we simplify the business to be efficient and to enable growth in the long term," said Vodafone Australia chief Bill Morrow in a statement that outlined the restructure. "We need to prioritise every dollar and internal action to count towards an improved customer experience and these changes are designed to deliver just this.
"We continue to face challenges, but I'm excited about the future."
Vodafone Hutchison Australia posted a $131.1 million loss in the half-year to June 2012, as revenues faltered and difficulties hit its attempt to upgrade its network. In 2011 the company generated revenues of $4.59 billion down 4.73 per cent on the prior year.
