Wipro developing hi-tech application to help fight terror

Indian security forces, hard pressed as they are considering the number of terror related incident being reported from all over the country may now get some hi-tech help from Wipro Infotech, the Indian major. Wipro Infotech announced that it has developed a highly advanced software application that will enable real time information sharing between various units of the police.
The application presently in the pilot stage will cover all activities related to the day to day functioning of the police department. This would include several back-end processes of finance, stores and administration on an on-line platform.
Accoring to the company the application will prove to be higly effective in tracking the movement of criminals and terrorists.
The application has a citizen interface to enable people to file complaints and track the status of FIRs (first information reports).
The user interface provides for display of content both in English and the local language.
Wipro's general manager for government and defence Ranbir Singh said that Wipro sees a major role for IT in combating crime and terror.
Speaking about the application security officials reportedly welcomed the development. According to security officials there is an urgent need for a system to beat the terrorists who are getting increasingly tech savvy.
