Railways to give preference to wait-listed `Tatkal’ passengers
15 May 2012
Railways will give preference to wait-listed passengers under the Tatkal reservation scheme over other passengers while clearing the waiting list in the event extra coaches are added to the train.
The Railways has been resorting to addition of coaches in order to clear the summer rush of passengers in addition to the summer specials introduced for long-distance passengers.
"If an extra coach is added to a particular train, then preference would be given to wait-listed Tatkal ticket holders. After that other class wait-listed passengers will be adjusted in the coach," a senior railway ministry official said.
Passengers pay a premium for reservation of tickets under the Tatkal scheme that allows passengers to book tickets, although in reduced numbers, a day or 24 hours ahead of actual journey.
The Tatkal scheme allows reservation for a maximum of four passengers per PNR and no refund is granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets except in exceptional circumstances. No duplicate tickets will also be issued except in exceptional cases on payment of full fare, including Tatkal charges.
A self-attested photo copy of the proof of identity of any one passenger is required to be attached to the requisition slip and passengers will have to produce photo proof under the Tatkal reservation scheme.
