IGL hikes prices of CNG, piped gas in National Capital Region
01 Jan 2011
Compressed natural gas (CNG) will cost Rs29 a kg in the national capital region from midnight tonight against the current rate of Rs27.75 a kg, gas supplier Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) announced today.
This will raise the selling price of compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad by Rs1.25 per kg.
The new consumer price of CNG in Delhi will be Rs29 per kg while it will be Rs32.50 per kg in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, an IGL release said.
The new consumer price of PNG to households in Delhi has also been raised to Rs18.95 per cubic metre (scm) from Rs16.85 per scm for consumption up to 90 scm in four months with effect from today. Beyond 90 scm in four months, the applicable rate in Delhi would be Rs26 per scm.
"Indraprastha Gas Ltd has raised the CNG prices for automobiles from Rs27.75 to Rs29 per kg because of an increase in the input cost," company sources said.
IGL said it was forced to raise prices after it exhausted the APM gas quota from state-run producers and started purchasing gas from Reliance Industries Ltd.
The hike, coming after last month's increase in petrol prices by Rs2.94-2.96 per litre, will put a severe strain on vehicle owners.
IGL had last hiked the CNG price in Delhi by Rs0.25 per kg to Rs27.75 per kg on 1 October.
IGL is a joint venture of public sector GAIL and Bharat Petroleum Corporation and the Delhi government.
