Apple posts $3.07 billion Q2 net profit

Apple Inc yesterday reported fiscal second quarter revenue of $13.50 billion and a net profit of $3.07 billion, which far exceeded analysts' estimates.
Wall Street consensus had estimated $2.44 per share on $12.6 billion in revenue.
"We're thrilled to report our best non-holiday quarter ever, with revenues up 49 per cent and profits up 90 per cent," said Apple CEO Steve Jobs in a statement. "We've launched our revolutionary new iPad and users are loving it, and we have several more extraordinary products in the pipeline for this year."
The company sold 2.94 million Macintosh computers during the quarter up 33 per cent from the same period a year ago.
The company also reported sales of 8.75 million iPhones a 131 per cent increase and 10.89 million iPods a 1 per cent decline.
According to Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer's estimates Apple's third fiscal quarter projected revenue would be in the $13 billion to $13.4 billion range.
